DULUTH, MN—Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick, P.A., a prominent law firm based in Duluth, is proud to welcome attorney Nicholas Mehlum to its legal team.
A native of Superior, Wisconsin, Mehlum graduated from Superior High School in 2015. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University in 2018. While at Bemidji State University, he was a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree and played on the football team.
Mehlum earned his juris doctor degree in 2022 from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, graduating in the top 10% of his class. During law school, he served as a Dean’s Merit Scholar and Dean’s Fellow. After gaining experience in the music industry, particularly in the area of royalties and artist contracts, Mehlum returned to the Twin Ports in 2024 to be closer to family.
At Fryberger, Mehlum plans to focus his practice on transactional law, including real estate, estate planning, and business and corporate matters.
“More than anything, I’m excited to learn from Fryberger’s experienced attorneys and expand my practice,” said Mehlum. “Everyone here has been incredibly welcoming.”
Mehlum brings with him a sharp mind, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative spirit to the Fryberger team.
“We’re excited to have Nicholas on board,” said Fryberger President Mia Thibodeau. “His enthusiasm, diligence, and thoughtful approach to transactional law will benefit our clients and our team.”
When he’s not practicing law, Mehlum enjoys watching sports, spending time with his wife and their dog, and working on projects around their new home.
