DULUTH, MN—Duluth-based law firm Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick, P.A. recently announced the addition of attorney J. Steve Nys to their Duluth office.
Nys is a 2008 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law. Shortly after graduation and gaining admission to the Minnesota bar, he began work at Mark T. Signorelli, Ltd., before rising to shareholder at the firm. In joining Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick, P.A., he brings extensive experience in trusts and estate practice, with a focus on estate planning, business succession planning, real estate transactions, and trust and estate administration.
Nys comes from a family of lawyers, with both his father and an uncle serving as early inspiration in the field. He graduated with honors from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2002 with a major in Theater, and spent time in the fields of acting and writing, as well as at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, before enrolling in law school. The practice of law enables him to help people while practicing creative problem solving, which are his two driving passions. His work in trust and estate planning allows him to help clients properly plan for the future, which he sees as the greatest reward in his work.
Outside of the office, Nys is active in his community, serving on the board of the Duluth Playhouse and as a commissioner on the City of Duluth’s Charter Commission. He donates his time and services through the Minnesota State Bar Association’s “Wills for Heroes” program, as well as through the Volunteer Attorney Program of Northeastern Minnesota, where he provides pro bono advice and drafts documents for people who cannot afford an estates and trusts attorney.
When he and his wife find the time to travel, they prefer to explore communities similar to Duluth — places with good food, easy access to nature, and great people.
